Experiencing papermaking hands on at Kurotani Washi Cooperative Association
With a history stretching back 800 years, Kurotani washi (traditional Japanese paper) is designated as an Intangible Cultural Asset of Kyoto Prefecture. At Kurotani Washi Kaikan, you can shop for various goods made with washi and experience papermaking hands-on, as well as tour the studio and exhibition room. Also, Kurotani Washi Kogei no Sato (Craft Village) in the Kanbayashi district, only open on weekends, sells paper crafts and offers papermaking experiences and tours.

From JR Kyoto Station, take express train "Kinosaki" or "Hashidate" on "Saninhonsen" Line and get off at Ayabe Station (65 minutes). From JR Ayabe Station, take Aya Bus KUROTANI Line, get off at KUROTANI WASHI KAIKAN MAE stop (33 minutes), and then 2 minutes by walk.
